Consumer protection is one of the most important policies of the European Union. Albania, with the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, is committed to giving the Albanian consumer the same rights and protection
as a European consumer. Specifically, Article 76 provides: “The Parties shall co-operate in aligning consumer protection standards in Albania with Community standards. "Effective consumer protection is necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the market economy, protection which depends on the development of an administrative infrastructure to ensure market surveillance and law enforcement in this area."
One of the areas that is specifically regulated by this law and by the European legal framework for consumer protection, is consumer credit.
Specifically, consumer credit in Albanian law is regulated through Articles 44-45. Also, this field is regulated horizontally by other articles of general character of this law, which complement the protection
which is guaranteed to the consumer in relation to the consumer credit.
